Update to 2018 Auxin Herbicide Labels: What You Need to Know

As farmers prepare for planting, it is crucial to review new requirements for handling different auxin herbicides. Examples of auxin herbicides include myriad brands of 2-4-D ,and the dicamba herbicides XtendiMax, FeXapan, and Engenia.

Purchasing

To purchase auxin herbicides, you need an active pesticide certification and attendance at a one-time Dicamba/2-4-D training session. Your training is still valid if you completed it in 2017. For those who still need training, visit at auxintraining.com to sign up for the class. In the registration form, select “Dicamba/2,4-D Herbicide Technology Training (Required for purchase)” under “Courses.”

Application

Because of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) label changes, 2018 will require applicator training. Those who plan to apply the dicamba herbicides must undergo required annual new-label applicator training. This certification will be valid for two years. Sign up for training at auxintraining.com. Under “Courses,” select “Dicamba Applicator Training.”

Both of these training programs are provided by Mississippi State University – Extension Service and have been approved by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.

Other requirements for use include robust record-keeping, adherence to wind speed limitations and application times, and tank clean-out.
