Dicamba Use and Application Guide from Greenbook--2019
On Apr. 3, 2019, I received an email titled “Your Complete Guide to Dicamba Application” from Greenbook. By clicking the links in this guide, producers can access arguably the most up-to-date body of knowledge regarding the third season of dicamba use and application to crops.
Covered subjects include:
• “Get to Know Your Dicamba Options”–available products and access to their labels
• “Is Your Sprayer Equipped for Dicamba, 2,4-D Application?”–types of hoses to use
• “How to Legally Apply Dicamba Products in 2019"–application timing related to planting date and crop stage
• “10 Valuable Links for Anyone Applying Dicamba”–access to general topics
• “Dicamba: Know Before You Apply”–applicator preparation, sprayer setup, application rates
This is another resource that producers can access to learn about the proper use of dicamba and its correct application.
In a previous blog, I informed that BASF Corporation has developed a web-based tool to help producers determine the time of day that is ok to apply dicamba products such as Engenia. Click here to access the Engenia Spray Tool.
Once on the site, producers can enter their location by city and state and retrieve weather data for that time of day, or by clicking the hourly button, access forecasts for a 36-hour future window for that location. These data can be used to determine the best time of day to spray dicamba herbicides to avoid rain, wind speeds in excess of those allowed for spraying, wind direction that will contribute to off-site drift toward sensitive areas, and conditions that will likely result in a temperature inversion. In fact, the tool even outputs the potential for inversion; e.g., no, medium, and high inversion potential. Producers who plan on spraying dicamba-containing herbicides at any time during the year are encouraged to access and bookmark this site. It can be a powerful tool to use to ensure that spraying restrictions/conditions are met to prevent the offsite effects that often result from use of these herbicides.
