MSPB Board Meeting Wrap-Up
The Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board met January 28-29 in Starkville to elect new officers and finalize a budget for the 2013 fiscal year, which begins on March 1. Board members elected Hollandale farmer Jan de Regt to the position of chairman. Tim Clements of Greenville now fills the position of vice chairman and Leland farmer Paul Dees will act as secretary and treasurer.
The board finalized a budget for FY 2013, once again allocating the majority of its budget to production research projects. This includes a soybean doctoral fellowship in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Mississippi State University. This year’s fellowship is named in honor of Alan Blaine, Ph.D., Mississippi soybean specialist and former director of the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Verona, for his contributions to Mississippi soybean production. The board also voted to invest in the Edgar E. Hartwig Endowed Chair in MSU’s Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
