New Resources and Info on MSSOY--Nov. 10. 2021

The 2022 Planning Budgets for Soybeans from MSU Ag. Econ. have been posted in the “Reference Items” list of the “Soybean Enterprise Planning Budgets” post on MSSOY. These budgets can be used to help producers estimate the costs for and returns from their 2022 soybean crop that will be grown in various management systems.

In a Nov. 9, 2021 FarmProgress article titled “A new tool for utilizing Midsouth soybean variety trial data”, Dr. Virginia Sykes of the Univ. of Tenn. Institute of Agriculture describes a new tool that combines data from soybean variety trials that are conducted in Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia into one database. In the article, Dr. Sykes presents summary guidelines on how to use the tool to get the desired information. Click Midsouth Soybean Variety Trial Database to access the tool. This dataset will allow growers to easily access variety trial data from adjacent states that may have trials conducted in locations with growing conditions that are similar to those of a producer in an adjoining state. This will markedly increase the robustness of predicting which varieties are best suited to specific regions and growing conditions since common soybean growing regions often cross state lines. The creation of this tool was funded by the United Soybean Board in collaboration with Centrec Consulting Group, LLC.

The database currently contains 2018-2020 data, but will be updated with 2021 soybean variety trial data as they become available. It is hoped that variety trial data from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri will be included in the database in the near future.
