The 2016 Insect Control Guide for Agronomic Crops in Mississippi is now available. According to the Dec. 16, 2015 post on the Mississippi Crop Situation blog, two significant changes are included in the new guide.

• Removal of pyrethroid insecticides for bollworm control in all crops due to resistance and poor control, and


• The addition of a dynamic threshold for bollworm (podworms) control in soybeans that accounts for commodity prices and treatment price for bollworms in reproductive stage soybeans.

According to Dr. Angus Catchot, the bollworm thresholds are a direct result of work that was done with MSPB funding for Project No. 01-2011 through 01-2014. This research resulted in the awarding of a Ph.D. degree to Dr. Brian Adams under the direction of Dr. Don Cook.
