Conservation Farming Information Resource

The MSU Extension Service was part of a team that received a prestigious national award from the Soil and Water Conservation Society in July 2024. The society’s Conservation Innovation Award was presented to the group for the One Good Idea online platform that is a multimedia clearinghouse of videos and podcasts for farmers to access to learn from Midwest and Midsouth extension personnel and farmers about proven stewardship practices that will promote and enhance soil health.

One Good Idea is a collaborative effort between farmers and university Extension Specialists from across the midwestern and midsouthern U.S. It is a resource that is designed to help farmers make decisions about the adoption of conservation practices in their farming operations. Dr. Beth Baker, an MSU Associate Extension Professor, is an integral part of the team that developed this award-winning initiative.

The One Good Idea program curates conservation ideas and makes them available in a digital format that can be accessed online at any time. Its peer review structure ensures that only high-quality information is contained on the website.
