Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board Hires New Board Administrator

Industry veteran Carol Bullard to oversee board operations, checkoff communications

March 27, 2012 (CANTON, MISS.) – The Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board (MSPB) is pleased to announce its recent hire of Carol Bullard as board administrator, who will join the farmers on the MSPB executive team to lead the Mississippi soybean checkoff organization. In Bullard’s new role, she will manage the day-to-day operations of the board, including planning and coordinating MSPB meetings and activities, serving as webmaster of www.mssoy.org and representing MSPB at industry events and trade shows.

A Mississippi native, Bullard brings with her more than 30 years experience in agricultural pesticide and seed sales in the state of Mississippi. Prior to joining MSPB, Bullard worked for DuPont Crop Protection Company as a district sales manager, where she called on agricultural pesticide distributors, Mississippi State Extension agents, private crop consultants and farmers.

“Mississippi agriculture has always been a big part of my life and I’m excited to have the opportunity to use what I’ve learned over the years to help Mississippi soybean farmers and MSPB,” Bullard said.

Bullard will work hand in hand with Larry Heatherly, Ph.D., MSPB’s research and technology transfer coordinator, to support the implementation of MSPB’s strategic plan. Her background in Mississippi’s pesticide and seed markets coupled with her experience supporting the Mississippi Agricultural Consultants Association will help her make an easy transition into this new role.

“The board is excited to have a Mississippi native with agricultural experience to serve as MSPB’s primary liaison to the soybean and agriculture industry here in Mississippi and throughout the U.S.,” said Jimmy Sneed, MSPB chairman and a farmer from Hernando. “Carol’s excellent communication skills and her familiarity with Mississippi’s agricultural industry will serve MS soybean producers well as Carol supports the MSPB and its partners.”

Bullard’s extensive agricultural background also includes sales positions with Shell Chemical Company and Pioneer. She also served as an insect pest management program technician for the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service and taught forestry and horticulture at South Panola High School. Bullard attended Mississippi State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in general agriculture.

MSPB is made up of farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all Mississippi soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply.
