MSPB and MSU to Host Soil Moisture Sensor Field Day On June 25

On June 25, the Mississippi State University (MSU) Extension Service and the Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board (MSPB) will host a soil moisture sensor field day at the Delta Branch Experiment Station in Stoneville. All farmers are invited to attend the event which will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Capps Center.

Farmers will see an in-field examination of several soil moisture sensors currently sold in the Delta. Jason Krutz, Ph.D., MSU Extension Service Irrigation Specialist, will also explain the procedures required to install a moisture sensor, the type data the sensors capture and how to use that data when irrigating.

“We are hosting this field day to work with producers on the use of various models of soil moisture probes currently on the market and to provide some technical guidance on these varying devices", said Krutz. "We will have representatives from industry on hand to provide additional information and answer questions from producers. I want to thank the Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board’s SIP (Sustainable Irrigation Project) initiative for their support of this meeting.”
