MSPB Recognized during American Society of Agronomy’s Annual Meeting

STONEVILLE (November 15, 2016) - Last week, Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board (MSPB) was recognized with an award at the American Society of Agronomy’s (ASA) Annual Meeting. Their website, www.mssoy.org, won first place for its category, ASA Extension Materials Website/Social Media/Blogs.

The website is a one-stop shop for all things soybean production. It contains information and links to information available for growing soybeans in Mississippi. Whether farmers are looking for information about herbicide resistance or a guide on irrigation efficiency, www.mssoy.org has all the information they need in one centralized location.

“MSPB invests in numerous production-research projects that we believe will improve the profitability of soybean production in the state,” says Tim Clements, MSPB Chairman and Greenville soybean farmer. “But just as investing in the research is important, it is important that soybean farmers know about the results of these projects and how they can benefit them. Our goal is to make it easy for farmers to find the information they need to help their soybean crop succeed, and I think we’ve accomplished that with mssoy.org.”

MSPB collaborates with Mississippi State University (MSU) Extension to ensure the blogs, resources and videos available on the website summarize important points about various soybean production topics, such as weed control, irrigation efficiency, soil fertility, insects, diseases and variety selection.

MSPB is made up of 12 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soy checkoff on behalf of all Mississippi soybean farmers. These volunteers work to increase soybean farmer profitability by investing checkoff dollars in ongoing public research and extension programs that address Mississippi production challenges, thereby driving the adoption of best management practices developed through research and ensuring the sustainability of Mississippi soybean production.
