I recently posted several new items on MSSOY. A link to and brief summary of each follows.
Harvest Weed Seed Control (HWSC) is a White Paper that describes in detail how targeting seeds of escaped weed plants that are present at harvest can help minimize new inputs into the soil weed seedbank. Relying totally on herbicides for weed control in the coming years will hasten the spread of herbicide-resistant (HR) weeds, which will quickly render the remaining efficacious herbicides ineffective. The non-chemical weed control practices that are components of HWSC technology can be used to aid in or supplement the control of HR weeds and/or HR weed escapes.
Weed Control Issues in Soybean is a compilation of links to short articles that pertain to weed control issues in soybean. These articles cover weed burndown at planting, returns to soybean weed control systems, things to consider when selecting and applying PRE herbicides, new weed control technologies, plant-back intervals for common herbicides, a PRE herbicides reference manual, HWSC, and facts to consider when using 2,4-D and/or dicamba on soybean that is resistant to these herbicides.
2016 On-Farm Soybean Variety Demonstrations presents the results from Dr. Irby’s MSU Extension Soybean Variety Demonstration Program. During 2016, there were 29 on-farm locations in 18 Mississippi counties. Results from these tests can be used to help producers make variety selections for the 2017 growing season.
