Southern Cover Crops Council
A relatively new resource that can be accessed for cover crop [CC] information is the website for the Southern Cover Crops Council [SCCC]. The Cover Crop Resource Guide for Row Crops is located on this website, and provides CC information for individual counties within 13 southern states.
An invaluable segment of the SCCC website is the “Cover Crop Information Sheet” that is provided for each CC species. These fact sheets contain information about CC species [e.g. cereal rye and Balansa clover] that are commonly used as a CC in the selected county/region, and can be accessed once a county within a state is selected. They contain details about recommended varieties of the chosen CC species and planting and termination information that pertain to that species, as well as its cultural traits. At the end of each fact sheet, there is a list of sources from which the species information was obtained.
Other sections that can be accessed on this website are 1) a CC species selector tool, 2) contact info for local experts in each state, 3) a Seed Source section that can be accessed to find a list of suppliers of CC seeds, and 4) results from multi-state CC variety trials.
This site arguably is the most complete source for CC information that is available. Those who are responsible for its development and upkeep are commended for this work. Producers are strongly encouraged to bookmark this site so they can have ready access to its information that pertains to an accepted conservation agriculture practice.
