Soybean Insect Management and Thresholds in the Midsouth
To provide information that producers and consultants can use in making treatment decisions, Dr. Angus Catchot, Extension Entomologist at Miss. State Univ., developed a webcast that contains the specifics about if, when, and how the various insect species should be managed. This webcast is featured on the Plant Management Network’s “Focus on Soybean” webcast series.
Dr. Catchot’s presentation, entitled “Soybean insect pest management and thresholds in the Midsouth Region”, contains the latest research-based recommendations for economic thresholds that should be used to make control decisions for most of the common insect species encountered each year in Midsouth soybean production systems. He also discusses cultural practices such as planting date that can be manipulated to limit insect infestations and their subsequent damage.
Several of Dr. Catchot’s graduate students and a portion of his research are being funded by the Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board.
