Soybean Research Funded By Mississippi Producers
MSPB-funded projects for 2011-2012 are listed on the MSPB website. The variety of subject matter covered by these projects indicates that soybean research in Mississippi is directed towards addressing the myriad production and management issues faced by Mississippi soybean producers.
The conduct of this funded research is the responsibility of the Principal Investigators (PI). Oversight of the progress of the research is the responsibility of the MSPB, and progress is monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure that allocated funds are being used to meet the objectives outlined in the project proposal.
One of the requirements stipulated in the contract with each project’s PI is the production of an end-product; e.g., a publication or webcast of an oral presentation that will be posted on the MSPB website. This ensures that the information and/or technology developed from the funded research will be available to all Mississippi soybean producers as soon as it is developed and verified.
Starting this year, the MSPB is participating in the activities of the Midsouth Soybean Board (MSSB). This Board’s primary objective is to develop and facilitate regional soybean research projects that will provide more benefit if conducted in a range of environments that are provided across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.Research projects that are being funded by checkoff dollars in the four individual MSSB states are summarized on the MSSB website.
The MSPB is determined that checkoff dollars are spent for research activities that will yield maximum benefit. The in-place accountability process and the participation in regional research efforts are important steps in the attainment of that goal.
