Updates For Information Sources

One of my objectives for this blog is to provide sources of the latest information that can be used to produce the best possible soybean crop.

Following are links to four sources that provide new/updated information that can be used to enhance Mississippi soybean farming.

An updated article on this website gives the URL’s for online sources that can be accessed to find pertinent information on subjects that include

  • Soil fertility

  • Planting date recommendations based on spring temperatures

  • Weed, disease, insect, and nematode management and control

  • Irrigation management

The article Soybean Seed Treatments and Inoculants is an updated version of a 2011 posting on this website. Available products and points to consider when using inoculants and fungicide and insecticide seed treatments are included.

Dr. Larry Oldham, Extension Soils Specialist, Mississippi State University, recently published Nutrient Management Guidelines for Mississippi Crops. This publication presents a complete picture of soil fertility management from soil testing procedures to fertilizer recommendations for soybeans.

The Plant Management Network, on their Focus on Soybean webcast page, has posted Preserving Soybean Seed Quality by Dr. John Rupe, Professor of Plant Pathology in the Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas. This 24-minute webcast covers all aspects of soybean seed quality, including testing procedures and interpreting their results, managing for high-quality seed production in the field, the effect of storage environment on seed quality, and Phomopsis seed decay management/prevention.

Check out my future blogs for updates/new information that can be used to support/enhance profitable Mississippi soybean farming.
