USB Information

An article titled “High Oleic Soybean” was recently posted on this website. Information in this article promotes the benefits from using high oleic (HO) soybean oil in the food and non-food sectors of the economy, and what this means for U.S. soybean producers. Of particular interest is the statement “the premium paid for harvested seed of HO soybean varieties makes them attractive for soybean producers to grow to increase their profitability”.

A Nov. 7, 2022 article from the United Soybean Board (USB) titled “Checkoff Encourages Farmers to Take Advantage of High Oleic Soybean Contracts” provides information about how U.S. soybean producers can obtain premiums for HO soybean production. Information about securing contracts for HO soybeans can be found here; however, there are no HO soybean elevators in the Midsouth, but current projections indicate there will be in the near future. This is something for Midsouth soybean producers to be mindful of in the coming years.

A Nov. 12, 2022 article in the publication Illinois Farmer Today titled “Soybean checkoff board focuses on research” describes how the soybean checkoff works, and how USB allocates funds collected from soybean farmers across the U.S. The article also provides an in-depth look at how USB is administered and how it sets goals for the allocation of checkoff monies. This is an interesting read for soybean producers who may be unfamiliar with how the USB administers their contributions to the checkoff.

The USB is composed of 78 volunteer farmers who work on behalf of all U.S. soybean producers to gain maximum benefit from soybean checkoff investments. Click here to access more information about the activities of the USB.
