Surge Irrigation Information--MSSOY White Paper
Surge irrigation is the intermittent application of water used to improve distribution uniformity down a furrow. Surge valves are used to more evenly distribute furrow-applied water in the soybean rooting zone in order to reduce runoff and deep percolation. Linked articles describe how to program surge valves and use them to accomplish more efficient irrigation, as well as results from research that show how surge irrigation will improve water use efficiency of irrigated soybeans in the Midsouth.
